Walleyes in the trees…

Hello sportsfans… And welcome to the weekly cast here on Lake of the Woods.

What may go off as the finest month of walleye fishing ever is now going out with a bang. And really not the type of finish we’d like to see.

It’s a numbers game. With walleye fishing you take the good with the bad. And the past three days we’ve had some darn tough weather.

Prior to the big NW winds and rains that accompanied this front… We again were having some incredible fishing. Mud. Sand. Rocks. The walleyes were in a feeding frenzy. And the big fish bite was starting to spur.

But… With mother-nature… You play the hand. One that’s been rough and rocky.

The good news? It looks like this weather front will move through by late tonight and on into tomorrow. With that… We will see a return of warmer weather and better fishing. It’s Lake of the Woods.

July is more times than not one of our best months of the summer. As stable weather returns I would have to predict more of the same. Great fishing!

But wow… Can you hear that wind blowing outside right now? Unreal… It’s putting the walleyes up into the treetops. Well… Not quite.

By the weekend they’re talking mid-seventies and sunshine. Pefect. Just in time for the Fourth of July celebration.

Best bets? After a big front like the one we’ve been experiencing you have to look for clean water. It’s been turbulant.

The mud bite may be our best bet. It seems like the walleyes stir less in the flats compared to the shorelines and rock reefs. In a day or two we should know more.

Til then… We’re continuing the great chase.

And looking forward to another fantastic bite come July.
