The Lake

A spark in March…

Hello sportsfans.  Here we are.  Living the dream.  Minnesota’s Lake of the Woods.

So what’s the latest with the ice fishing gig?  Better fishing.  That’s the good news.

For the past four to five days we have started to see an improved bite in most of our current angling locations.  That would include the Sisters, Knight, and Garden.

The huts are spread throughout a ten mile sector and we are covering sand, rock, and mud.  Kind of a mixed assortment of locations but the results appear to be positive.

We had a really good day yesterday.  The guides took about 100 people on the ice, and there were groups that were getting limits of walleye and sauger.  Good news!

There have also been some reports from the past few days indicating that the walleye bite is also improving closer to home.  Specifically the late afternoon bite in shallow water out front of the Lighthouse.  This could very well be a sign of early staging fish that intend to migrate toward the Rainy River for the annual spawn in April.

About the only thing we have lost in the past few days is the base of our snow pack on the lake.  Warmer temps with some precip have caused some melt down creating sloppy running conditions.  But the ice remains good.  And we’re still able to get to our fishing grounds without difficulty.

A prediction?  These next two weeks we should see some impressive action.  A very traditional trend for March.  And I would have to anticipate more of the same for this year.
