Biggest walleye of your life?

Welcome to the weekly splash here on Lake of the Woods.

It was another successful week of walleye fishing here at Ballard’s Resort. Big fish… Numbers… Slots… Trophies… We pretty much ran the gammit.

About the only thing we have been battling, other than walleyes, has been the weather. But fortunately… Even the rain and cold has not kept the fish from going strong.

Our best effort the past few days was on Friday. Of all the guide boats on the water… We caught approximately 600 walleyes. Of those close to 100 were in the 20” to 28” range… And there were four trophies that surpassed the ruler at over 28”. Solid effort.

What’s the line? Four-mile Bay, the Rainy River, and just outside the confines of the Lighthouse Gap. All three locations have been producing.

Lots of current. With high water it’s been a heavy jig bite. 1 oz. in the river… 3/4 oz. in the bay… And 1/2 oz. when you get to the lake.

The water clarity remains decent, even with the recent rains. So that’s a plus.

The best news? Every night in the lodge, since opening day, I’ve been hearing stories about the “trophy fish of a lifetime”. Yes, we are catching big fish. So life is good.
