The Lake

Fishing more consistent than weather…

Sportsfans — welcome.  And hello from Ballard’s Resort on Minnesota’s Lake of the Woods.

What’s the line?  Our walleye fishing is bouncing along with more consistency than the weather.  So from an angler’s perspective…  I guess that’s a good thing?

Our recent radar has been up and down with fronts, highs, lows, wind, rain, sun, and everything in between.  At least for the past six to eight days.  The only resolve is that the fish, for the most part, seem somewhat uninterrupted by these consistently changing weather patterns.

What next?  Well…  As I sit here…  We most certainly have a rain day in store for us.  Yes.  It’s wet out there.  Pack your rain suit.  Plan to get wet today.  Plan to catch fish today.

We’ve pounded some trophy walleyes during this past week.  Our percentages for July are certainly climbing.  Most of that can be attributed to the action that we’re finding on the rock reefs.

Where to?  How to?  When to?

The guides have pretty much been making a living on the west side of Big Island and most points north on up to the Little Traverse.  Structure fishing, rain or shine, they’re either jigging or pulling spinners.

Our south shore mud-bite remains somewhat in tact.  But the numbers are a bit more sporatic.  Up and down.  Up and down.  Still good walleye fishing.  But maybe not quite as good as what we are finding on structure.

What’s in store for this coming week.  The great chase continues.  And with that (July is a BIG fish month) we keep living the dream.

Set the hook!
