The Lake

Get the net…

Sportsfans…  Welcome.

Welcome to some of the best walleye fishing that we’ve had so far this summer.  Not only numbers…  But big fish.  Trophy fish!  That’s been the storyline for this past week.

A day in the life?  Or just another day on Minnesota’s Lake of the Woods?

Example:  Monday June 14.

Now you’re taking an office guy’s word on this, but I do actually venture toward the lake once or twice a week.  Yesterday was the day.  Show up.  Catch fish.

It started about 6-7 miles offshore in 31.5 feet of water.  Straight out from the Lighthouse.  Anchor and jig-a-thon.  Shiners were hot and so were the leeches.  Not to mention “BOB”.  Refering to my slip bobber rig.  He works well on the flats and also provides epic entertainment.  Lots of excitement when “BOB” takes a dive.

Within one hour our group had a decent mix of walleyes and sauger.  And a few slots (19.5 to 28).  Not to mention the 30 1/2 inch monster walleye that also came on board for a visit.  Dandy walleye!

For kicks we pulled anchor and moved out about another mile north.  Another foot deeper.  32.5 feet of water.  Same results.  Steady steady steady fishing action.  I’d wager we didn’t go two minutes without someone either catching or missing a fish.

From there is was north to Garden.  A fantastic shore lunch.  And some rock hopping for the afternoon.

Starren was good.  Knight was better.  The Sisters were awesome.

It certainly was “one of those days”.  Where ever we went, we caught fish.  Small, medium. large it pretty much ran the board.

Another great day on The Woods!

Now it’s your turn.  Get up here.

Set the hook!
