The Lake

Skating north…  More walleyes…

Hello sportfans and piscatorial followers.  Blessed are those who come to the ice, not for need of frostbite, but to flurry in the action found in this winter wonderland we call Lake of the Woods.

What’s the down-low??

Walleye action!  Good walleye action!

Last weekend the guides made a bit of a move, I recall Nick telling me it was something like 15-16 shacks bounced in one day, out to 33 feet of water.  I’m not sure why…  But when I’m in the office…  I know darn well not to question.

Anyway…  The move was somewhat surprising on our end.  How so??  MORE walleyes.  Yes, more walleyes in the catch that offered better size and numbers when compared to the sauger bite that was so dominating just a week prior in 30 feet.

Some of our fish houses are now reporting a 50/50 catch ratio of walleyes to saugers.

My hypothesis??  Don’t have one.  Or maybe I do??  Let’s call it hard work (the guides) and luck.

However you shake it out we certainly landed on a pod of walleyes that are offering some great action.  Now you’re not going to see those HUGE daily fish counts that I’ve been bragging on most of this season.  But you are going to see a better average size.  And a better potential for a trophy walleye.

How long will this last??  Go ahead and guess…  I am.  And I’m also saying that 20-35 fish in a hut, during the course of a day, is kinda where we’re running at right now today.

Bonus walleyes for late January.  Six and half miles off-shore.

Set the hook!
