The encore?  More fantastic walleye fishing!

Hello sportfans…  And welcome to the weekly spark here at Ballard’s Resort.

Wow!  It’s been another blistering week for the walleyes here on Minnesota’s Lake of the Woods.  And just when I thought we maybe couldn’t see fishing get any better?  We did.

Come rain…  Come wind…  Come whatever…  This mid-lake mud bite we have going is quite good.

Example?  Yesterday afternoon one of our Walleye Connection groups departed from the resort after 3 1/2 days of guided walleye fishing.  My question to them…  How many people in this group of (48) have now caught the largest walleye of their life?  The response was overwhelming. 

We missed one person…  But the balance of the (48) caught their largest walleye ever.  That’s certainly some sort of encore.  And a tribute to one heck of a fishery we’ve got going up here!

Interesting side note:  The individual from the Kansas group that did not beat his personal best was on my guide boat yesterday morning.  Ever hear of close but no cigar?

Mid-morning he stood next to a group member that set the hook on a whopping 31 incher.  Just a beautiful fish.  We released it.  And I’m estimating it would have went around 12 pounds.

Our odd man out was within striking distance…  But that walleye must have decided this particular fella would have to wait another day to beat his personal best of 30 1/2 inches.  We had a great laugh.  And everyone was thrilled to see that monster.  Including yours truly.
