The Lake

Tis the season…

Hello sportsfans.  Good tidings.  And welcome.

Well…  Here we are.  Jolly old St. Nick pounding on our rooftops and the winter world of walleye fishing is well under way on Minnesota’s Lake of the Woods.

We’ve had a good week.  Quite good actually.

Our local fisheries department could not have been more correct in saying that we have a bumber crop of saugers in the main basin.  Three years worth of bumper crop anyways…

The location of our haunts has not changed much in the past week.  We’re still fishing pretty close to the west end of Pine.  And we’re getting fish in 26-27 feet of water.

More saugers than walleyes in the catch ratio.  And again…  Some really good numbers.

In talking with more of the locals it sounds like there is somewhat of a better walleye bite taking place in the shallower depths.  But it’s a short opportunity for success in the mornings early on and not much after that.  You really have to get to the deeper water to find more consistent action.

Thus the reason for our current choice of location.  Our guides really prefer to see more consistent action throughout the course of the day.  And right now that’s exactly what’s happening.

As we move to the New Year it will be exciting to see how this south shore bite progresses.  For now it’s been a blessing.

Happy holidays everyone!

Set the hook.
